Saddlers sign International right-back...

THE SADDLERS have signed right-back, Jason Demetriou, subject to the necessary International Clearance being received.

The 27 year-old came through the ranks at Leyton Orient, where he worked under Dean Smith before going on to make 167 senior outings for the club.

He became an extremely popular figure at The O’s due to his accomplished and reliable displays.

The Cyprus International moved on to AEK Larnaca in the summer of 2010 before making the switch to Anorthosis Famagusta three years later.

“I have known Jason for a long time,” said Saddlers’ boss, Dean Smith. “He’s an extremely talented player and a Cyprus International, so I am delighted that we have been able to persuade him to come here.

“He will bring bags of energy, great technique and a winning mentality. He also has the know-how and drive that we are looking for.”

Demetriou is looking forward to getting back into the English game after five years away.

“I am so excited and can’t wait to get started,” he added. “I’ve missed the buzz of the English game and this opportunity has come up at the right time for me.

“I owe a lot to Dean Smith; I worked closely with him as I was coming up through the youth ranks at Leyton Orient, so I know the way he works.

“It’s clear to see already that he has created an excellent environment here. The set-up is great and hopefully I can play my part in us finding that winning formula.

“I am the type of player who likes to get forward at every opportunity and I will be looking to use my experience to good effect here.”
