Central defender keen to get back into winning ways...

PAUL Downing can't wait to get back into action at Colchester United on Saturday as we look to return to winning ways following last weekend's home defeat at the hands of Bradford City.

"We're looking forward to the game," he said. "Hopefully we'll be able put in another good performance, but this time get the points on the board to go with it.

"Our recent results at home have been frustrating; teams come and make it difficult for us, but it is up to us to find the answers to overcome it.

"That said, we're not getting too down about it. In one way it shows that teams are giving us more respect now because of the results we have achieved on our travels.

"We've shown what we are capable of and set some high standards.

"As for my own performances, I'm generally happy with the ways things have gone up to now. It's about being consistent and continuing to do the right things.

"You're always learning in this game and as a group we work well together and encourage each other. The mentality is right and the main driving force behind it all is the Gaffer.

"To see him agree a contract extension last week was a big boost for us all. Having that continuity is important and now we will see where it can take us.

"The players see a bright future here and we are all determined to help take this club forward.

"There is a good balance to the team with a nice blend of youth and experience. Everyone works together well and we're all pulling in the same direction.

"I'm really enjoying my football here and long may it continue."
