SADDLERS MAKE COMMUNITY SHIELD DONATIONS

22 April 2014

Community Programme and local Boxing Clubs benefit...

FORMER Saddler, Richard Green, and local boxers, Jason Welborn and Luke Paddock, were on hand to present the WFC Community Programme and two Black Country amateur boxing clubs with cheques yesterday.

The sporting trio gave The Saddlers a helping hand during our Bank Holiday Monday encounter with Gillingham.

Each year, The Saddlers are given a donation to distribute to worthwhile charities thanks to The FA Community Shield. Manchester United defeated Wigan Athletic 2-0 in front of over 80,000 people at Wembley last August and the funds are available to distribute from the general admission and net income of match expenses, plus profits from the sale of the Match Programme.

The kind-hearted Saddlers donated £500 to both Pleck ABC and Amphion ABC, as well as donating £1,000 to the WFC Community Programme.

Richard, Jason and Luke helped out with the presentations at half-time during our 1-1 draw with The Gills.

“It was nice to be back,” said Green. “As I played for both clubs, I was pleased with the draw and I was only too happy to help out with the half-time presentations.”

“It was nice to give a little back,” British Masters and Midlands Area Champion Welborn added. “Amphion are a relatively new ABC who box out of Darlaston, so £500 will go a long way.”

“It’s always nice to go to my local club,” said British Bronze Masters Champion Paddock. “I’m a Walsall lad so to visit Walsall Football Club and help out a good amateur club like Pleck was a pleasure.”

Welborn and Paddock are both in action against Bulgarian opposition at Walsall Town Hall on Friday, 16th May. Tickets, priced at £30 and £60 Ringside, are available from Walsall Town Hall Box Office on 0845 111 2900.

Tipton super featherweight Lee Glover, Staffordshire welterweight Rob Hunt, Leicester welterweight Ryan Nandha, Halesowen super middleweight Lennox Clarke, Stoke welterweight Josh McLaren, Wolverhampton super featherweight Des Bowater and brother, (welterweight) Sid Bowater, and Birmingham cruiserweight Olly Lambert, all feature on the undercard.
