Chambers on another pleasing away day...

THE SADDLERS secured our 14th clean sheet of the season in all competitions on Saturday as we came away from Colchester United with a 2-0 victory.

A defensive reshuffle was required within the opening couple of minutes when James O’Connor was forced to leave the field with a nasty cut to his head, but the back-line, superbly marshalled once more by James Chambers, did its job to give us a solid foundation to go on and secure three points.

“It was a pleasing result,” said Chambers, who put in another impressive display. "We rode our luck at times but there is plenty of character in this group and we used the ball better than our hosts.

“It’s always pleasing to keep a clean sheet; it was a tough day at the office but it was nice to come away with the win.

“The lads applied themselves well. There is a confidence in the way that we play and it was another pleasing away performance and result.

“When we go away from home, teams have to come at us and that suits the way we play.”

We now find ourselves with a break from the action until our Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Area Final second leg against Preston North End on January 27th – a game that will be played in front of a sell-out crowd here at Banks’s Stadium.

“It’s a big game against a very good side,” he added. “We know that we will have to be on our game and put in a professional performance.

“We’ve got a level-headed group here and it is important to keep ourselves focussed on the task in hand.

“Our preparation will be right and hopefully we can complete the job.”
