Captain Adam Chambers says Walsall can’t afford to feel sorry for themselves after their 3-0 play-off semi-final first leg defeat at Barnsley.Jason Demetriou’s own goal and Sam Winnall’s brace earned the Tykes a deserved victory at Oakwell.
The Saddlers now have it all to do in Thursday’s second leg – but Chambers says everyone must keep believing.
“We’ve left ourselves a lot to do but it’s up to us to rise to the challenge,” said Chambers.
“We were obviously very disappointed with the first leg. We wanted to stay in the game and keep it tight but it didn’t work out that way.
“We were disappointed with the goals we conceded, as you always are, but particularly the first one just before half-time.
“I felt we played ok at times and we had a few chances where we could have got one or two. It didn’t happen for us but we’ve got to dust ourselves down and we can’t feel sorry for ourselves.
“We’re going to have to come out all guns blazing and put on a performance on Thursday. We’ve got to be upbeat and have a bright few days. We’ve got to keep believing.
“If we perform to our best, then we’ll give ourselves a chance. We’ve had ups and downs this season and we’ve bounced back many times. We need one more now.”
