Loan man loving life at Banks's Stadium...
LEICESTER City loanee, Michael Cain, has praised The Saddlers' team spirit as he looks to continue where he left off against Tranmere Rovers as we finally return to home soil with the visit of Barnsley on Saturday (kick-off 3.00pm).The 19 year-old scored a stunning 25-yard strike during Tuesday night’s victory, his first goal in Walsall colours, but the talented midfielder was quick to share the accolades with his team-mates.
“Since I’ve been here, the moral and sprit on the pitch and in the dressing room has been brilliant,” he said. “I think we showed that by coming from two goals down and it was great for me to play my part in the result.
“It was a good strike but the build-up play leading up to the goal was really good as well.
“We moved the ball quickly, switched the play and made the opening. I just took a touch, struck it, and luckily for me it ended up in the back of the net.”
The Saddlers take on Barnsley on Saturday with just one goal separating the two sides in the League One table.
Dean Smith’s men return to the Banks’s stadium for the first time in nearly a month and Cain is looking to maintain our impressive recent run of form in front of our home support.
“It’s certainly nice to be back at home,” he added.“We’ve had a few away games and done a lot of travelling but back at the Banks’s now and we’re looking forward to putting in a good performance.
“We know they’re in a group of teams around us in the League but if we put in a performance that we’re capable of then the result takes care of itself.
“We’ve beaten teams at the top of the table as well as those at the bottom. This is certainly a winnable game but we have to go out there and impose ourselves.”
Cain's latest loan spell is up later this month, but boss, Dean Smith, has expressed his desire to extend his stay into the New Year.
The Luton-born starlet made his full senior debut in our last League defeat back in October and is keen to continue his development in the West Midlands.
“I’d love to stay here and play my football,” he went on. “I’ve enjoyed my time here and the last two months have been the highlight of my career so far. I’ve had some brilliant times already.
“It’s what it’s all about but that side of things isn’t down to me, that’s for Leicester and Walsall to talk about. I just get told to play football and I’m more than happy to do that.”
