Parting gift before International Duty from in-form Sawyers...
ROMAINE Sawyers' parting gift before going away on International Duty with St. Kitts & Nevis was a Goal of the Season contender against League leaders, Bristol City at the weekend. The 22 year-old headed to Haiti on Sunday on the back of another impressive display.
"It was nice to see the ball hit the back of the net," he said. "It was a really good team goal with some neat play in the build-up, so for it to end with the equaliser was fantastic.
"It was a great performance against another of the top teams in this League. We always seem to perform against the better sides; maybe it's because they come here trying to impose themselves on the game.
"On Saturday we always had that belief and at one-goal down we were always in it. We kept believing and at half-time the Gaffer told us to keep doing the right things and we got our reward in the end.
"In fact, we were a little disappointed that we didn't come away with all three points, but we'll take the point and build upon it.
"Hopefully I can keep this form whilst I am away and then be able to maintain my high standards when I return from International Duty."
Sawyers will miss Tuesday's Johnstone Paints Trophy tie at Rochdale (kick-off 7.30pm) and our League One trip to Oldham Athletic at the weekend.
