Saddlers slip to defeat...

THE SADDLERS went down to a 2-0 defeat Alfreton Town on a warm evening in Derbyshire.

Sam Mantom (knee), Ben Purkiss (ankle) and Jordan Cook (ankle) were joined on the sidelines by Matt Preston, Romaine Sawyers and Reece Flanagan who all had slight injuries.

Our hosts notched both of their goals in the second period.

"I felt that our first half performance was much better than our previous games so far," said manager, Dean Smith. "We looked much brighter, passing and moving the ball well.

"We created some good opportunities, which we were unable to take, and we should have gone into the interval in front.

"We were down on numbers due to some niggling injuries and it meant that a few players got longer on the pitch than ideally we would have liked.

"It was disappointing to have lost the game, but it was a good work-out for us and I am pleased with where we are at right now. The hard work will continue because it is all about being ready for August 9th."
