Erhun Oztumer has praised the Saddlers’ excellent home form, and believes it could be key to a late-season play-off push.Jon Whitney’s side have won four games in a row at home, beating Sheffield United, Bristol Rovers, Northampton, and most recently Peterborough on Saturday.
Oztumer netted the crucial goal in stoppage time, scoring directly from a corner, before Kieron Morris’ strike put the game to bed.
And the Saddlers playmaker believes the points we pick up at the Banks’s Stadium could prove vital at the end of the season.
“We’re playing well, our home form is probably scary to opponents. We’re on a good run and we’re in touching distance of the play-offs again, so everyone is believing at the moment.
“If we keep fighting and keep believing then hopefully we can sneak in there.”
The 25-year-old also knows that the team’s never-say-die attitude has been vital to their success of late.
Whitney’s men have scored seven of their last eight goals after the hour mark, including in the 92nd and 97th minute on Saturday to grab all three points.
Oztumer said: “You need to have belief. We’ve got that mentality now where we’re going into every game like it’s our last and we want three points in every game we play.
“We feel like we win games more in the second half. I’m not sure if it’s to do with our fitness or shooting towards our fans.
“It could be those little percentages that make the difference.”
The goal on Saturday was also Oztumer’s first against Peterborough since swapping London Road for the Midlands last summer.
The Saddlers number 10 admitted feeling the nerves on the return to his former stomping ground in September, but says he felt much more comfortable at the Banks’s.
“When I went there I was very nervous, just knowing the place and the players and obviously they know what I do.
“But here I felt more at home and the fans got behind me which really helps. I felt more confident and hopefully it showed on the pitch.”
