McCARTHY: KEEP THE RUN GOING

22 October 2016

Saddlers travel to Swindon this afternoon...

Jason McCarthy is hoping we can continue our recent good form at Swindon Town this afternoon.

The Saddlers, who currently sit 14th in League One, are unbeaten in four matches in all competitions and have lost just one in nine.

Swindon recorded a positive result themselves in their last outing, beating in-form Rochdale 3-0, and McCarthy believes they could prove tricky opposition.

“They’re a ball playing side who come out from the back, and that’s how we like to play as well, so it’s going to be a really good game,” said McCarthy.

“We’ll look to go there and implement our game and get the three points.

“You have to be on it in every single game and you have to be consistent. We’re getting that now. We’ve been consistent over the last eight games bar Scunthorpe.

“It’ll be interesting because it’ll be the first team I’ve played where they’ll come out and try match us.

“It’s going to be good for all of us to play a game where the players try and outplay each other.”

The 6’1” Southampton loanee has appeared in every league and cup game this term and is enjoying playing at right-back, having been earlier deployed as a centre-half.

“When I play right back it’s very different to how I’d play centre-back,” he added.

“I’ve looked to perfect that role now, and I can go on and get forward.

“When I play there I enjoy the attacking element of it, and I think the fans are starting to see that.” McCarthy also believes the Saddlers are reaping the benefits of having a settled defence.

“We’ve got a settled back four now, which is really helping,” McCarthy commented.

“You want to try and get that as quickly as possible. I think we’ve got that now, and it’s helping us to be solid as a team.”
