Defender happy at the Banks's...
Left-back Scott Laird says he is “loving” his time with the club. The 28-year-old has scored four goals in 29 appearances for the Saddlers since arriving on loan from Scunthorpe in August.
And the Taunton-born defender feels right at home here at the Banks’s.
“I’m loving it,” said Laird. “I love coming in every day and I love seeing the lads.
“You see lads come in on loan and they don’t really care – they just want to get their game time. But everyone here, whether they’re on loan or they’ve signed permanently, they really care.
“Personally, I’m loving it here. I don’t want the season to end. I’ve got seven games now, a month, and I’m going to try to enjoy every second.”
The ex-Preston and Stevenage man has been deployed in a three-man central defence over the past five games – and Laird admits he is enjoying his new role.
“I like it,” he commented. “I seem to get a bit more of the ball and the game is in front of you.
“I do like to get forward but the gaffer sees me as doing a good job in the back three and I’m really enjoying it.
“Whoever is in there – Kory [Roberts], Jimmy [O’Connor], Matty [Preston], Eoghan [O’Connell] or myself – they’re all good footballers.
“To play in that role you need to be able to handle the ball – which everyone can do – and be vocal too.
“With the wing-backs, Jason [McCarthy] and Joe [Edwards] have got so much energy.”
