FROM BIRMINGHAM TO THE EMIRATES

Community Manager for Sport taking part in charity cycle in aid of the National Brain Appeal...

Community Manager for Sport, Marc Wilkes, is getting on his bike for charity by cycling from Birmingham to the Emirates Stadium.

The 152 mile trip along the grand union canal route will include two overnight stays at Milton Keynes and Watford in what is billed as the Tour de London.

Marc is cycling in memory of Andrew Turner, a family friend who passed away at Christmas 2012 after suffering a brain Aneurysm at just 30 years of age. It’s is an illness that effects as many as 1 in every 100 people of any age, and has a fatality rate of 40%.

Marc along with his best friend Adam and Adam’s father Mark are raising money for the National Brain Appeal and set off on their journey this Friday.

“It’s such a worthy cause and I wanted to help my best friend out and raise as much money as we can,” Marc explains. “I only really started cycling in the last couple of months to get some training in for it.

“We’ve got ourselves kitted out so there are no excuses!

“We’ve been hitting the road about 3 times a week just to try and reach a decent level of fitness and our routes along local canals so it’s relevant to the actual cycle.

“I think we cover between 20 and 30 miles each time we train and I’ve really enjoyed it to be honest.

“It’s just like being a big kid really but obviously we’re doing it for a great cause at the same time.”

The trio have set a target of £1000 in donationa. To donate, visit their Just Giving page HERE or contact marc.willkes@walsallfc.co.uk
