Here at Walsall Football Club we have always prided ourselves on being ‘All-Inclusive’. Over the last six months we have been working towards achieving the EFL Equality Code of Practice, the minimum standard for Equality and Inclusion within Football.The Equality Code of Practice is a whole club initiative developed in consultation between the EFL, clubs and many other external organisations (such as Kick It Out and Level Playing Field) and forms part of EFL’s commitment, to the whole game English Football Inclusion and Anti-Discrimination Action Plan, which is reported back to Government.
The Code of Practice contains 12 individual areas which clubs need to consider in order to be inclusive across all sections of their business, from accountability at board level through to match day operations, general operations, the community trust, youth development and the first team.
Through this initiative, we hope to improve the experience for everyone who visits the Banks’s Stadium by eliminating all forms of discrimination, be it direct, indirect, harassment or victimisation, by the promotion of the nine protected characteristics prescribed by the Equality Act 2010 – age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage & civil partnership, sex, pregnancy & maternity, religion or belief, race and sexual orientation.
As part of this, collecting and monitoring key equality data about fans is essential in allowing the Club to understand more about our fan base and to ensure that the services provided by us are appropriate and relevant.
As such, we have set up a survey to enable us to fully understand where and how we can address under-representation and ensure that we encourage all of our local communities to get involved in football, whether as a fan, a coach, a steward or to join the Club’s workforce.

This equality and diversity audit of fans provides the Club with information about the extent to which we are complying fully with the provisions of the Equality Act 2010.
The information provided on the survey will be treated in confidence and is anonymous and we would ask as many people as possible to take part. The information will be used for the sole purpose of monitoring the effectiveness of our Equality Policy. Any personal information provided will be processed in line with the Data Protection Act 1998.
The date for our final submission in respect of the Equality Code of Practice is 30 April 2017 and the EFL has appointed an independent assessor whose role is to assess the Club and to provide a final assessment report against the Equality Code of Practice criteria. All final assessment reports will then be considered by an independent review panel.
