Youngster to remain at the Banks's until at least the summer of 2018...
Walsall FC are delighted to announce that promising left-back Callum Cockerill-Mollett has signed his first professional contract with the club. The 17-year-old, who first joined the Saddlers in 2014, will remain at the Banks’s Stadium until at least the summer of 2018.
He made his first senior start for Walsall in a pre-season friendly against Derby last month and was also an unused substitute at Chesterfield on Tuesday.
“I’m really happy about signing my contract and I’m feeling really positive,” said Cockerill-Mollett.
“It’s come earlier than I thought it would so it’s a really good feeling.
“It came as a surprise although I had been involved with the first-team a bit in pre-season. I played against Derby and I was captain of the youth team which I was happy about.
“Pre-season went really well for me and I just want to kick on with the season now.
“The last few years have really helped me. I’ve come on physically, mentally I’m a lot stronger and I now know my position a lot better.
"I’d like to thank everyone involved with the academy for helping me become the player I am today.
“I’ve really enjoying my time with the first-team. The quality is a lot higher and it’s a good, positive environment. There are a lot of new players in there and everyone is getting to know each other.
“My aims for the season are to be in and around the first-team. I’m happy where I am at the minute, I enjoy playing for the youth team and hopefully I will get a few more appearances on the bench, and maybe come on one time to make my debut.”
