CHAMBERS: CONFIDENCE IS HIGH

24 February 2017

One defeat in eight for the Saddlers...

Captain Adam Chambers says confidence is high in the Saddlers squad ahead of tomorrow’s League One clash at AFC Wimbledon.

The Saddlers head to Kingsmeadow having lost only one of the last eight games – a run that has seen us close the gap on the play-offs to six points.

“I’ve always been confident with the players we’ve got but when you’re in that vein of form your confidence is at a higher level,” the skipper commented.

“We’re really confident we can go anywhere and match anyone so the big thing for us is to concentrate on performance.

“When we perform at a good level we can match anyone, and our intention is to win the next game.

“That’s all we can do – concentrate on the next game, prepare right, go in with a positive frame of mind.

“If we do that, we’ll give ourselves a great chance of picking up points.”

The Saddlers made it four successive home wins last weekend with a dramatic 2-0 victory over Peterborough, thanks to stoppage-time goals from Erhun Oztumer and Kieron Morris.

Oztumer’s goal, which came direct from a corner, was his 13th of an impressive maiden campaign at the Banks’s – and Chambers has hailed his impact.

“He’s been outstanding for us this season,” Chambers added.

“You look at some of his goals and he’s scoring from all over the pitch.

“Whenever the ball’s at his feet things happen, whether he’s scoring goals or making assists. It’s up to the rest of us to get him on the ball as much as possible and to make runs.

“He’s got that vision and technical ability to make things happen so he’s doing very well.”
