Youngsters continue fine start to the league campaign...
Youth Team Boss, Graham Biggs, hailed his players performance after seeing them run out 2-0 victors over Carlisle United on Saturday.First half goals from Cameron Peters and Tobias Hayles Docherty were enough to secure an eighth success of the season and ensure the young Saddlers retain their place at the top of the table.
Biggs’s side have conceded the fewest goals in the division (5) and another clean sheet combined with some slick attacking play left the newly appointed Academy Manager delighted with what he’d seen.
“We started like a house on fire and to be honest we should have taken the lead in the first minute,” said Biggs. “We got on the ball and controlled the game for long spells.
“Our pressing was really good and we had a real attacking intent about our play which ultimately led to the first goal.
“Dan O’Sullivan gets pulled down in the box and Cameron Peters converts from the spot.
“We continued to control the first half, even after taking the lead but couldn’t find a second until the stroke of half time.
“Tobias Hayles-Docherty doubles our lead and gave us a bit of breathing space going in at the break. To their credit, the boys came out for the second period and continued where we left off.
“We got into some really good positions and it’s just unfortunate that we didn’t add to our lead in the second half.
“At 0-0 Brandon makes a decent save in goal but other than that he was a spectator and I think it shows the level we’re consistently reaching.
“Our distances were very good and it was an all round solid performance by the players.
“What pleased me was the way we managed the game once we got our noses in front. There’s a maturity about the players and you can see them developing with every game.
“We introduced a couple of first year years who came off the bench and got some gane time. They’ve been excellent in training over the past few weeks and earned their chance.
“They didn’t let the side down and kept us ticking over until the full time whistle.
“Defensively, as a unit, they’ve been tremendous so far this season.
“Dan Vann got his professional contract during the week and it didn’t change his approach to the game at all.
“We defended very well all afternoon and it starts with Cameron at the front and works it’s way back.
“Morecambe next up so we’ll prepare for them this week and look to continue the little run we’re on now.”
