THERE was a cool wind to greet the final home game of the season as The Saddlers looked to secure our League One status against a Huddersfield Town side who have already cemented their play-off place.

2 First attack by the visitors led to a goal as Kallum Higginbotham linked up well with Lee Novak who guided the ball beyond James Walker to make it 1-0.

5 The Saddlers looked to hit back and Alex Nicholls saw his effort saved by Ian Bennett.

9 Loud appeals for a penalty as Jon Macken held the ball up before finding Emmanuel Ledesma who was brought down from behind as he entered the area. Nothing given, much to the annoyance of the home faithful.

12 As Walsall attacked on the left through Emmanuel Ledesma, he found Jon Macken whose effort dipped over.

15 Deep cross towards Kallum Higginbotham who put his effort over from a good position.

16 Foul on Emmanuel Ledesma gave him a free-kick in a promising position that he put just wide.

17 Header back by Lee Beevers required James Walker to clear outside his area ahead of Lee Novak.

32 An effort from Scott Arfield deflected agonisingly wide as the Walsall fans behind the goal held their breath.

37 Long-range drive from Tommy Miller flew over as the wind continued to play its part in proceedings.

39 High free-kick found the head of Andy Butler whose deft effort forced Ian Bennett into a low save.

45+1 Lee Beevers' cross handled to give The Saddlers a free-kick. Emmanuel Ledesma curled it in dangerously and Andy Butler's header landed just inches wide.

49 Mat Sadler put in a teasing low ball that Florent Cuvelier turned home to make it 1-1.

56 With our tails up, Mat Sadler won a free-kick that was well worked as Emmanuel Ledesma's effort hit the defensive wall.

58 A short corner saw Florent Cuvelier twist and turn inside the area before firing across the face of goal, but the ball had too much pace on it and evaded everyone.

66 Jon Macken was high and handsome with his strike after moments earlier Richard Taundry had attempted an ambitious effort.

69 A neat move ended with a corner which found Olly Lancashire in space at the near post but he headed inches wide.

78 Will Grigg replaced Jon Macken.

79 Fantastic burst by Alex Nicholls saw him make progress before firing just wide from distance.

83 A foul on Will Grigg by Peter Clarke gave Walsall a free-kick in a good position which Emmanuel Ledesma put over the crossbar.

86 A breakaway from a corner saw Emmanuel Ledesma fouled. The free-kick from Florent Cuvelier just too high for Olly Lancashire.

88 A quick free-kick found Mat Sadler who headed towards the area and put in an inviting cross which agonisingly evaded everyone.

90+3 Some good inter-play on the left ended with Alex Nicholls pulling the ball across goal but again it flashed straight across with no touch.

90+5 A weak header back saw Emmanuel Ledesma chase and collide with Ian Bennett who was brave to gather at his feet. Both players needed treatment but were okay to resume.

The final whistle signalled celebrations as Walsall secured League One status!
